About the Better Globe Group
Better Globe is the name of a group of companies and organizations that want to reduce poverty in Africa by helping the poor become self-supporting, while also assisting with training and combating climate change and desertification. We believe in social entrepreneurship, and we need to be profitable so that we can create a better world by doing good.
Our group works in the following three focus areas:
1. Planting trees and establishing tree plantations
By planting trees, we create jobs, remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and lay the foundation for small communities. Read more about the planting of trees here; www.betterglobeforestry.com
2. Building schools and providing children with an education
We build schools near the plantations and enable children to get a real education. Learn more about our school building and educational operations, which is done through the NGO Child Africa here; www.childafrica.org
3. Contributing with microfinance to poor farmers
By contributing with both knowledge and micro financing, we help farmers create their own small farms and businesses so that they can support themselves.
We are proud that we have some of the best concepts, tools, and activities to fight poverty and the global climate threat, which allows us to create a better world to live in, for ourselves, for our children, and for future generations. The challenges we face
Better Globe works with social entrepreneurship and has focused on three of the major problem areas that we see today. The major problem area is the global net loss of forest annually which is 50% since 1960. Africa accounts for 56% of the net loss. 39% of the net loss is in South America and only 5% in the rest of the world. Forests are felled worldwide, so this highly skewed distribution depends on how logging is done and with what interests in the foreground it is made.
The second major problem area that we focus on is extreme poverty. More than 3 billion people live on less than $ 2 per day. It is almost half the world’s population. More than 1 billion people live on less than $ 1 per day and this group includes about 80% of Africa’s farmers.
The third major and obvious problem area that we see today is the lack of education. 10 million children in Africa live on street today and only a handful goes to school. In addition to this there are an equally large number of children who live with their parents, but do not attend school because they are needed at work, cannot afford school or for any other reasons. Education is fundamental to poverty alleviation. Poverty will be solved when necessary trainings and skills are gained by the youngsters. After all, development in all countries depends on training for the young people.
Child Africa is the publisher of a FREE inspirational and educational children’s magazine called BINGWA, which means “Champion” in Swahili. This magazine is distributed free with10 copies to each school 3 times (each term) a year.
